They grew together as the double city Berlin-Cölln

1710 Berlin becomes the capital of Prussia.
1798
The city expands quickly as it grows in cultural, militarical and economical importnace.
1885
The industrialization makes Berlin an economic powerhouse, which draws millions new people to the city.
1901
From 1820 to 1920 the population of Berlin grew from 200.000 to 2 million.
1905
The city has already physically merged with many smaller ones surrounding it.
