Where to go?

PALERMO

Palermo is the capital of sizily and home to around 674.000 people. The city offers a huge range of historical attractions, ancient buildings, and a romantic athmosphere. Make sure to check out the fascinating cathedrals (palermo cathedral, capella palatina) and treat yourself with icecream afterwards! All the sights are in walking distance from the centre - which makes exploring the city quite easy. Between the beaufiful buildings you will find a lot of cute cafés, restaurants and boutiques. Don´t forget to check out the local food markets as well.

Stay: We would recommend to stay in Palermo for 3 days. The districts la Kalsa and Monte de Pietà are good located to explore the city and it´s nightlife as well.

CEFALÙ

Tired of the busy city and ready for the beach? Then go to Cefalù, the small city is located 65 km east from Palermo - it only takes an hour by car and the train.
The charming little city with its 14.000 inhibitians is perfect for relaxing beach days , city strolls with cute boutiques and to taste the local cuisine.
Make sure to hike up the Rocca de Cefalù to catch the sunset with a stunning view (or the sunrise if you´re an early bird!) Since the city is small the life there seems more laid back.

STAY: We recommend to stay 2-3 days - after a couple of hours you saw the whole city but the charming flair invites you to stay and escape the busy

TAORMINA

Taormina was defintetly our favorite city on this trip! Located on the hills of the east-coast you have a stunning view above the sea. Taormina is one of the most touristy cities in sicily which it makes it a litte more expansive in case of sleeping and eating and a little less local. Walking throught the small streets, the surreal park (villa communale) will give you an instant feeling of happiness.
If you want to spend most of your time sunbathing at the beach don´t worry - there is a cableway down to the beach. While you ride down (for 3€) you get to see the sea above the beaufitul city.
We really loved to stay in Taormina with its stunning scenery!

STAY: We would recommend to stay in Taormina for 4 days. Make sure to book an accomodation in the city centre otherwise you´ll have to walk a bit uphill.

CATANIA

Catania is after Palermo the second biggest city in sicily with 313.000 inhibitants.
After we arrived at the trainstation the vibe of the city was completly different. Catania is way more littered and dirty - we also didn´t always feel secure.
The city centre itself is packed with beautiful old buldings and a nice park. But after staying at all the smaller cities we felt quite a bit lost.
We spent most of our days discovering the city with its old and impressing buildings. We´d also recommend a daytrip to Sycarus which is an hour by bus away.
If you love beaches you might be disappointed in Catania. The water is either dirty or the beaches are rocky.

STAY: We recommend staying 1-2 days (better not in the area of the central station) - the rest of the island is way more pretty ;)
